What a surprise! What a happy surprise!

I had no idea that my Lens about Rhubarb had been chosen. I was informed on Facebook of this exciting honour and, let me tell you, exciting is the word for it.

It stayed at #53 for a couple of days, went up to #34 and then zonked to the 800 mark. I couldn’t expect it to stay in the high 100 of course but it was a thrill while it lasted. When you consider that there are over 1 million lenses out there, it’s pretty good going to get the top one for the day!

Heaps of comments from well-wishers. Very satisfying.

Lensmaster Margo Arrowsmith left a comment on my rhubarb lens. Thank heavens she did! It was a lens that I had almost forgotten about.

I love rhubarb, the forgotten treasure of the garden

Rhubarb is a wonderful plant.

It came out of Asia over 2,000 years ago and was initially cultivated for its medicinal qualities. But then someone realised how tasty it was! Who are these brave souls who discover the delights of divine taste in otherwise odd vegetables?

While on the subject, who burned the first rabbit? Seriously, why would it occur to anyone to drop their food in a fire and come back to eat it later?

What budding gourmet first decided to try a nibble on a truffle?
